The Exhibition now being hold at the Choral Hall by the Auckland Society of Arts continues to attract the interest of the artistic public On Saturday afternoon and evening, there were excellent attendances.
The. prisoner Isaac Cam, who was reported to hue escaped from Fort Cautley on Saturday forenoon, was captured that evening by (luiini>rs Quirk and Kelt, of the Permanent Force. It> was thought that lie was hiding in some gorso near the Fort, iind as the. two gunners were watching the place they saw a man about 150 yards away, whom they challenged end piii'sue'd. He was soon caught, and though denying he was the escapee, was taken to Fort Cant ley, where the warders identified him as Cam.

A visit has been paid by the Government Geologist, Mr McKay, to the cinnabar lode discovered in the Otumu district. The, deposit appears to be of a superficial character. Then1 is apparently a very even distribution, of the mercury, and the prospect -of.its turning out remuneratively seems to be encouraging.
