GREASED A STOWAWAY TO PREVENT STICKING.

Ger-rge Ferguson, a stowaway, who was held on board the steamer Barrowroore tobereturnedto England, got himself into a uncomfortable position recently while ; attempting- to escape. He tried to crawl through the deadlight of the room in which he was confined and drop overboard, but after getting his shoulders through he stuck i last. He could not get his hips through the hole, and neither could lie draw his shoulders back, and he lvung there, half inside and half outside of the ship. It took only a short lime to convince him that escape was impossible, and then he began to shout for aid, but the noise made in loading the ship prevented his cries from being heard, and it was not until he had been in his unpleasant position for neai'ly three hours that any help came to him. The seamen of the Barrowindre tried in every way to ■ extricate 'him, but without effect. They pulled him backwards by the legs and for/ ward by the arms, and covered his body with grease to prevent it from sticking, but it was not until some one thought of unscrewing the brass frame oi the deadlight that he was gotten out, and then the frame came out with him and had to be cut off with a saw. It was 6 o'clock when he tried to make his escape, and it was nearly 12 when-he was taken out, so (.hat he was thoroughly exhausted and a good deal bruised. He will go back on board the ship when she sails. —'Boston Transcript.'
