' Last night Mr Percival received nomina- , tions for the two big jumping races of the iforth New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase Meeting to be fought out at :.Ellerslie in June. The; liberality of the •A.R-C. in endowing the events with rich stakes has borne good fruit, for the entries received" are slightly in excess of any previous year. Among those who figure in Ithe Hurdle Race is Rex, who was ap- • portioned 9st 71b by Mr Evett last year. The names of several beginners are also to be seen in the list, including : Antares, Castashore, Mitiora and Anita! The. champion hurdlers, St. Simmon'and Plain Bill, are also engaged. Among old stagers entered for the Steeplechase are ■Mutiny and Levanter, while the much-talked-of Nor'-west is also a candidate for cross-country honours. Mr Evett declares the handicaps on Friday, May 13th. The following figures show the total number of entries for the two events compared with the three previous years :—
