A GRAVE CHARGE

ALLEGED ABANDONING AN

INFANT.

To-day at the Police Court before Messrs Pollard and Patterson, J.P.s, Mary Kainsbottom, alias Ramsay, was charged that on or about the month of June, 1897, at or near Long Bay, Coroniandel, she did murder her infant daughter, Eleanor Gladys Kamsbottom.

The accused, a young girl of 18, of prepossessing appearance, was cleanly and neatly attired. She made no reply to the charge, but turned her head away from the Court onlookers.

Mr MeAlister, for the Crown Solicitor, asked for a remand until Tuesday next, which was granted by the Bench.
