COMMERCIAL
KAURI GUM MARKET,
AUCKLAND, Wednesday.
This market showed no alteration during the past week as far as prices for good quality gum were concerned. Owing, however, to the dry weather enabling diggers to work the swamps the bulk of the gum sent in latterly :'s of lower grade, for which buyers here hesitate to pay the prices generally asked. Holders of gum 01 good quality are firm in tlieir demand for full prices, but at the moment there appears more inclination on the part of the buyers to wait for lower, rates to rule for the bulk of the gum. A contributory cause to the less eagerness manifested to buy is 710 doubt the fact that the barque 'Alice is now fully loaded with cargo for New York, and there will not be another boat for America far two or three weeks. The Silverstream is, however, loading gum for London. Supplies of gum ■ for the 26 days of January total '450 tons.
