To-morrow is the last day on which cityrates are payable. After that ten per cent, will be added. An amusing story of a theatrical manuscript and its travels is told by Miss Olg'a Nethersole. A day or two j ago she received a parcel containing a play which has been following her around for two years. The first decipherable date is Sydney, N.S.W., Sept. 23, 1895, and the last Liverpool, October 39, 1597. It was delivered at last to Miss Nethersole, in Dublin, where she was playing-, stamped by the postal authorities, 'received at Grafton-street Walk in this condition.' The condition of the packet was cer- I tainly pitiable, but hardly to be won- ! dered at, considering its travels, j Originally it_ was addressed from Sydney to Miss Nethersole in London, and forwarded from her former address to Daly's theatre, and thence to the Savoy Hotel. Being returned to the Dead Letter Office, Sydney, it was endorsed there Januarj', 1896,' and lay dormant some months. Then it set forth on its travels again—to New York, May 18, IS9G; to Chicago, June 10; to' New York again; thence, in July, it came to the Gaiety, London. Several other addresses in London were tried, and again the nnlueky parcel got to the Sydney Dead Letter Office in November 26, 1596. A Tot until March, 1397, was another attempt made at delivery. Then it made a, journey through America, crossed the Atlantic and followed Miss Nethersole on her English tour, and eventually Avas delivered to her in Dublin. And only to think 1 that in this way some aspiring unknown Australian dramatist, may have been for two years robbed of the sweets of fame. ' Oi don't mind the threats 'ay 'im,' Mr Hogan explained, ' as much as th' insultin' shtyleav his remarks.' ' And fwhat did he say ?' asked Mr Grogan. 'He says to me, " Hogan," says he, "'tis a great notion Oi have to jump on you and knock your face into shape.'
