Numerous applications have within the lasb few dayfl bean lodged for claims along the Waibi Beach, chiefly on the reported discovery by: Mr Alfred Long of a reef said bo be 300 feet wide, which lies north of the Omnoga settlement. Some half-dozen claims bavebeen applied for adjoining this, whilst several others have been pjgfiea further south on the land claimed Dy Mr Veaey Stewart ao freehold. An application has also been lodged for the ground known as the Waihi Consolidated, the license for which is stated to have lapsed. Mo objection was baked by Mr Bush to the granting of first applications for protection for six months in the case of new claims, but he warned the owners of ground thai) a day of reckoning was coming, when, if toe properties bad nob obbained capital bo work them, applications for further protection would nob be so readily granted.
