TRAINING EPSOM DERBY HORSES.
Au English scribe, " Sic Hercules," gives the following interesting accounb of the work done by the first and second in the laabEnglißh Derby :—"The Derby winner wenb through a perfect orthodox preparation for that greab battle. Indeed, bis work was, if anything, of the over severe sort, which goes to the credib of his constitution, soundness and heart). On the other hand, Sb. Fru.quin's Epsom preparation waa ia several waya nowise so searching. True, he was ripe and fit early in spring, but even so, and Btill further crediting him with hard going, and work on the tan exclusively, it will, I think, on reading and comparing the following summary of the last month's work, stand oub clear thab Hayboe dared not rip his charge thoroughly oub. Summary of lasb month—Sundays all resb. The work referred to here is the daily final gallop fasb work :—St. Frusquin : 3 days, 5 furlongs ; 5 days, 6 furlongs; 6 days, 7 furlongs ; 2 days, 1 mile ; 2 days, li mile ; 1 day, 1_ mile. Persimmon : 1 day, easy ; 1 day, 6 furlongs ; 3 days, 7 furlongs; 4 days, 1 mile; 4 days, 1J mile ; 3 days, 1_ mile ; 1 day, If mile. Then, ib is well to bear in mind thab hardy Persimmon did his work all on the grass, bar once, and thab Sb. Fruaquin was always on bhe ban."
