DROWNING ACCIDENT AT SURREY

HILLS,

Yesterday forenoon, an accidenb occurred ab Surrey Hills, by which a boy named Alfred Crook, a nine-year-old son of Mr Crook, of Westmoreland-street, off Richmond Road, Surrey Hills, losb his life by drowning. The deceased and another boy, younger than he, were on the wall of the dam near VVarnock's soap factory, Cox's Creek, throwing sticks into the water, and the former overbalanced himself and fell in. The other boy ab once ran away tor assistance, but unfortunately the unfortunate lad was drowned before any one could reach the dam. The body was nob recovered till 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

At the inquest a verdict of "accidental drowning " was returned.
