A DIVORCE CONSPIRACY CASE.
Sydney, August 9. A sensational conspiracy case has been occupying the Court! Laeb year Judge Windeyer granted Thomas Richard Butler a decree nisi for divorce from his wife on the grouuds of adultery wibh George Williams, whose real name has since been ascertained bo be Charles Davis. Subsequent revelations led the Crown to prefer against Butler, Davis, and a'woman named Peake, a charge of conspiriog to falsely accuse Mrs Butler. Evidence was submitted to prove thab Davis and Peake had been paid by Butler to lead hisi wito astray in order thab the latter might; obtain a divorce. All three accused were found guilty, the jury adding a rider bhab Mrs Butler had nob commibbed bhe offence for which a divorce was granted. Butler and Davis were sentenced to seven years' and Peake to four years' imprisonment. Rofe, who acted as solicitor for Butler in the divorce proceedings, has also been arrested on a charge of conspiracy.
