Wife and Daughter Butchered, '$ Suicide of the Murderer. •' (BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION).
■"-•" New Plymouth, Wednesday. News has been received of a triple tragedy at Mahoetahi. It is stated the wife of a man named Ben was found in a hut about half a mile from a pa with her head smashed. An axe was found alongside the body. After killing his wife Ben went to the pa and killed his daughter. He next set fire to the whare, and then shot himself. An in-' quest will be held to-morrow. From later particulars to hand respecting the native murder at Mahoetahi, it appears that Been, a native,, killed his wife through jealousy, then went to the whare and shot his daughter, after which he committed suicide. The name of the man in Maori is not known to the police. In appearance he was like a half-caste, and had a red beard. He had the reputation of being a quiet, hard-working man.
