A SERIOUS CHARGE.
ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO MURDER.
A German named George Eugene Kothe was charged at the Goulburn (New South Wales) Police Court on Friday last with attempting to murder hid mate, named Gottwaid, on the Sydney road on the previous night. Gottwaid was in the hospital wibh a severo wound on the head and other injuries, bub his condition was nob dangerous. His story is thab he left Camdon eighb days ago with Kothe to go gold mining, Kothe knowing that ho had money. On Thursday night he was lying awake in bed when Kothe, it ia alleged, came behind and hit him several times on the head with a bar ot iron. Gottwaid, who is a strong man, closed with his assailanb and secured him. During the struggle hia foot was burned in tho fire. Gottwaid had dug a big hole, and ho avers ib was Kotho'e intention to throw him into it, when he would nob have been heard of again. Six sovereigns and bwo watchos wero kopt by Gottwaid under the head of his bed. Kothe says thab he only acted in self-defence. The case haß been adjourned.
