■ The fortnightly meeting of the Newto Borough Council was held last nighb. present: Mr Thos. English (the Mayor), and Crs. Davenport, Webley, Bouakill, Shackelford, Wilson and Lee. Declaration. —Messrs Wilson and Webley (re-elected councillors) and Leo (a newly-elected councillor) made the usual declaration and took their seats. Oto Milt, Road.—Messrs Jagger and Parker drew attention to the bad state of the Old Mill Road from the abattoirs to their tannery.—Reterred to the Streets Committee. Pound-keeper.—Mr James E. Skeen was "re-appointed pound-keeper, etc. — The Mayor said Mr Skeen' kepb the borough free from stray cattle and iome, and it was only the people who had.these animals grazing in the borough who were opposed to him. Accounts.—Accounts amonnting to £60 16a 6'd were passed for payment. Drainage.—The Streets Committee recommended that in order to drain the allot? menta fronting Ponsonby Road and Williamson's Avenue a 12-inch and a 9-inch drain belaid. The cosb was estimated to he £35.—The report was adopted. .Leave of Absence.—The Mayor aßked leave of absence for three weeks owing to ill-health, in order to take a trip to Australia.—Leave was granted accordingly.
