NATIONAL INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS.
ANNUAL DINNER
The annual dinner in connection with the National Independent Order of Oddfellows, waa held last nighb in tho dining-room of tbe Clarendon Hotel, which w-ub handsomely decorated for the occasion. The repast was served up in Bro. \V. Lynch's best style, sixty-five of tho brothers and visitors sitting down at, the tables. Bro. Hugh Kelly, N.G., occupied tho chair, being supported by Bros. H. Phillips and J. Gorman. After full justice had been dono to the good things provided, a number of toasts wero proposed and honoured. The toast of "The Auckland district," was proposed Bro. Gorman, and Bro. Phillips responded. Bro. Young proposed the toa.b " Loyal Pioneer Lod^e,'" coupled wibh the name of Bro. C. B. Thorne, the Secretary. In doing so he paid a high tribute of praieo to Bro. Thorne for his zeal and untiring exertions on behalf of tho Lodge and tho N.1.0.0.F. generally. Bro. Thorne suitably repliod. He aaid he hoped that the increased rate of contribution to the sick fund would be continued as recommended in the auditor's report. During tho evenintr Past Noble Grand certificates were presented to Bros. Henry Christopher, Wm. McDowell, and Edward Langley. Bro. Thorne also received a P.N.G. certificate on behalf ot Bro. Henry Taylor, who was unavoidably absent. Ab bhe close of the business harmony was indulgod in. On tho whole a bhoroughly enjoyable evening was spent by those present.
