TARIFF REFORM.
(BT TELEGRAPH. — PARLIAMENTARY
RKfORTIiR.)
Wellington, this day.
A good deal of dissatiefaction is prevalent among labour membors ovar the fact that the Government has nob yet indicated its intentions in regard to revision of the tariff. I understand irom some of tb'em that they consider that before this time they should have received definite assurance ono way or the other. It is easy to see why tha Government have rofrained from any clear expression ot opinion until theFinancialStatemenb. cornea down. That document will, I understand, supply labour members with the information they deeire. The contention which somo urge that there wore many matters which might have been referred to the Manufactures and Industries Committee, and have not been referred is easily met. That Committee has probably boon detained from entering on consideration of such important question as tariff reform till Mr Ward was sufficiently recovered to join in their deliberations.
