1 number of practice matches were played h various parts of the suburbs and ab Epsom on Saturday afbernoon. The season spans on Saturday nest, A Press Association telegram from Dun--Bdin states that a special meeting of tbe Rugby Union was held, on Saturday night, to consider the motion to affiliate with the .New Zealand Rugby Union. The motion was rejected by a majority of one, bhe voting being 23 for and 24 against. One delegate, after declaring against, declined to vote. .-__.«• On Saturday afternoon tbe first Association match of bhe season was playod between teams from H.M.s. Rapid and Wesb End Club. Tho following ara the players: -Rapid : Goal, Davison ; backs, Malcolm and Wells; half.baoke, Sherbet, Htegins, and Cant; forwards, Jennlngn, Evans, Holmes, May and Fletcher. West End: Uoal, Rowe j backs, J. Whelan and G. •Osmond; half-backs, C. Owen, Frioker, and W. Whelan t forwards, Harris, Todd, Dantley, Cash, and Mills. The matoh ended iv a win for tho Wesb Bad team, tbe score standing 2—o.
