In an article describing a visit to the Rnventhorpe Jersey herd, near Drury, the "!New Zealand Farmer," in the May'numbor, observe?: — " We have often pointed out the great advantage of a few Jersey cows in an ordinary dairy herd, in order to improve the average quality of the supply of milk. Dairy factories are now paying prices for milk in proportion to the butter fat it contains, which increases the buainesa reasons for usine Jersey blood in the dairy herd, In. saying this we do not for a motnenb recommend the discarding of the excellent and well-tried Shorthorn blood for dairy purposes. Shorthorns of the true milking strain will be found in most cases under colonial farming conditions the best foundation for a dairy. But some Jersey cowa in the herd, if not a dash of Jersey blood throughout it, will show results in butter production well worth obtaining."
