THE PREMIER AT GORE.

Gore, this day. The Premier addressed a crowded meeting ab bhe Town Hall last night, and was listened to most attentively for Z_ hours, during which he traversed over very much the _ame matter as thab given in his speech ab Lyttelton on Monday evening. lie criticised at some length the Hon. G. F. Richardson's statement, especially with reference to finances, given at Wyndham last week. He said his Government sine* they had been in office had spent £221,589 on public works in Otago and Southland, and intend proceeding expeditiously with the construction of the Otago Central and Seaward Bush Railway to a paying point. In tbe past he considered too much had been spent en railways and nob enough on roade nnd bridges. The Governmenb had consulted the besb legal authorities in the four large towns with reference to tho appointment of Railway Commissioners when tho term of the presonb Commissioners expired in February next, and were advised that the Governmenb were nob bound to re-appoint the present Commissioners, but could appoint any others they liked ; at tho same time the railways did not come back into the hands of the Governmenb, therefore they had a free hand, and having this power would nob bhink of their responsibilities, but do whab they thoughb would be best for tho people. Ab tho conclusion of his address a vote of confidence in the Premier and his Governmenb was carried unanimously. The Premier lefb ab midnight by special train for Dunedin.
