Electoral* ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF AUCKLAND. L.V IF.B AND GENTLEMEN,— 1 have the honour to announce that I am again a Candidate for your suffrages at the forthcoming Election. Youi*3 respectfully. T. THOMPSON. October 16. 1893. "FpLECTORS OF AUCKLAND CITY. I have much pleasure to announce that I shall be a Candidate for your su.Fr.as.es at the approachina Election. If elected I ..ball pivo a loyal support to the present Government and the Liberal Party. Yours respectfully, W. J. NAPIER, mO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF AUCKLAND. Ladies and Gentlemen, — Having been requested by a lar.ge number of electors to alow myself to be nominated as a Candidate for your suffrages, and as such request; was conveyed to me so late in the electoral campaign as *o aliow mo very little time to place my views on political questions beforo you, I lake this opportunity of giving you a brief sketch of my opinions on tha leading questions of the day. 1. I am strongly attached to the freehold system of land tenure, and regard it as playing a most important, part in attaching our people to this beautiful country, and fostering a spirit of patriotism amongst us. 2. I desho that.every facility and encouragement should be given to all who desire to become owners of small freeholds. 3. I am in favour of Parliamentary reform on. such lines as will allow the full and fair dealing with'important questions apart from parly considerations. 4. I am in favour of the retention of th° Legislative Council, the number of its members to be considerably reduced and elected by the people, a certain proportion of the whole retiring every three years. 5. I dosiro to see such improvement in the Native Land Laws as will ensure indisputable titles to bona fide purchasers, and the speedy opening up of the large areas held by the Natives. 6. Taxation, I hold, should be reduce 1 to the lowest amount necessary to administer the Government and provide interest aud sinking funds for oi:r public debt. 7. Although EXCEEDINGLY DESIROUS Of giving every opportunity for religious bodies to impart religious ins!ruction to the young, I am not in favour of making such instruction part of the ordinary school work. Nevertheless, I would support the taking of a plebiscite to ascertain the views of the parents of children attending the schools of the colony on the question of Riblo-rcading in the schools, effect to be given to the result of such plebiscite. 3. I am in favour of giving Ihepeople full control in the regulation of the Liquor Traffic. 9. I hold that the Railways should be managed by a Board free from all political influence, but I should have no objection to the Minister of Public Works being a member of the Board with a deliberative vote only. 10. I am opposed to further borrowing in any way. 11. I am opposed to all classes or merely Socialistic legislation, but wherever abuse oppression, or injustice exists, I shall earnestly help to remedy it. 12. I am opposed to all class privileges of any kind whatsoever, and shall endeavour to secure equal rights to all members of the community, and iionkst administration of the Government. I propose to enlarge upon the above questions, and refer to many other matters in the public addresses which lam arranging to deliver in various parts of the district. If you should do the honour of electing mc ns one of your representatives, I shall use my best endeavours to advance your interests and those of the country in the Parliament of Now Zealand. Yours obediently, C. E. BUTTON.
