AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
, m .... The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday afternoon was attended by Messrs W. Crovther (Chairman), R. Farrell, J. McCabe, T. Henderson, A. E. Devore, Adam Porter, C. V. Houghton, J. H. Witheford and E. W. Alison. No business of much importance came before tho Board. A letter was received from the French Society for lighting harbours and it channels by oil gas buoys, and giving information as to the cost of the luminous buoys used on the Seine, and was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Messrs J. Chambers and Son submitted some plans, specifications and suggestions as to the lighting of the wharves by electricity.—Those were referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. A letter from W. H. Hazard asking for the use of a vacant allotment in Quaystreet for a pyrotechnic display was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee, An application from J. Foss asking to be allowed to sell goods on board warships in the Calliope Dock on Sunday morning was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. A petition was received from a number of cab-owners and drivers, asking the Board to abolish the tole levied on cabs plying on the Queen-street Wharh The petition was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. A report was received from the Harbour-master,, reporting that the c.3. Nautilus, owned by the Devonport Ferry Company, had towed a vessel, the barque Natal Queen, in the harbour without having been duly licensed to do so. The Harbour-master asked for a ruling on the subject of ferry steamers towing vessels in the harbour without being licensed to do so.—The matter was deferred.
