From Queensland comes news of bhe deabh of bhe filly VeraSpes, of buberculosis. She was by Vasco di Gama from Lady Walmsley, a full sisber to Carbine. A few days before the filly died, Mr Markwell was offered and refused 500gs for her. Mr Joe Kean has been appointed clerk of the course ab Rand fvick, vice J. Ashworbb, deceased. Mr S. H. Gollan Heft Sydney for England by the Oceana several days ago. Whilsb exercising ab Randwick the steeplechase gelding Australasian dropped dead on the trainers' track. He was the property of Mr W. Kelso, and was by Swiveller. St-. Odille, the Newmarket Handicap winner, has dropped a magnificent colb foal bo Carbine. Tbe youiagsber should be a ringer. The bhree-year-old filly Tresfeldt (by Nordenfeldb—Tres Deuce)!, which formerly occupied a box in Mr S. Hordern's stable, won the Canterbury Park: Pony Handicap (Sydney), 14st lib and uiader, a few days back. T_es Deuce is in Major George's stud. Major George informs me thab there ia no truth in the statement published in a Soubhern weekly, thab h.e has engaged to ride The Workr. aan in the Auckland Cup.
