After hia return from Te Aroha yesterday afternoon the Hon. R. J. Se'ddbn'was interviewed by a deputation introduced by the HoW E. Mitchelson. The Minister was urged'to bring before the Government the desirability of extending the operations of'the Fisheries. Mr Parker made a statement as to what bad been done in this way at the corrugated iron worka'in Freeman's Bay,; and showed how the industry: was plaoed at a .disadvantage.; by having to compete . with, galvanised iron-imported' at very-low- prices,:,-. ' Dr. Purchas called oh Mr "Seddon at the Star Hotel, and asked the Minister to move the Railway Commissioners to do something in reference to a dangerous railway crossing at Avon: dale. Dr. Purchas stated that very recently he had a very narrow escape of losing his life at this place. He approached the crossing, with care, but did not see or hear anything of an ' approaching train until the engine rushed past about six yards in front of his horse's head. Mr Seddon promised to make a note of the matter and bring it under notice of the Commissioners. . ■ •< -~-■ -' :- v ' MR.'SEDDON'S DEPARTURE. About 10.30 a. m. the Hon. Mr Seddon left for Onehunga in a carriage accompanied by his private secretary, (Mr fiamer) and Sir ..Maurico O.'Rorke. Mr Seddon intended to inspect' the' Onehunga Cemetery Bite en route for s.s. Mahinapua, by which Hq subsequently left for Wellington. Tomorrow evening the Minister intends to address a public meeting- at Otaki, and'he will on that occasion probably reply to! certain statements made in v recent speech by Dr. Newman, M.H.R.
