The barqueritine Coquette, which arrived here after a,25 days' passage from Newcastle, reports having been in a recent severe galo ofi v Cook b Straits for three days. The yes.sol was hoya - to, and the sea, running mountains - high, came aboard, sweeping fore and aft, Both/boats were smashed to atoms, and the bulwarks were stove in. The sea crashed down with tremendous force, filling .the forecastle, and stove-in the forecastle deck. For four hours the vessel was undor water, unable to rise to meet _ the sea. This was a very anxious time for all on board. Fortunately the hatches bore the swerve and strain imposed on them, or the vessel must have gone down. In the height of. the gale the topmast yard was carried away, and added greatly to the danger of'those on board. Provisions were washed away,,.and water .damaged.
