MYSTERIOUS DROWNING.
ANOTHER BODY FOUND.
MAN FLOATING IN HARBOUR.
At abotib a quarter to eight this morning the carpenter of the English ship Timaru, ab presenb lying anchored in the stream to the wesb of the Queen-streeb Wharf, named William Williams, noticed bhe body of a man floating pasb bhe ship. He went oub in one of the ship's boabs, and after securing the body to bhe ship wibh a bib of rope he came over to the Waber Police Station, and informed Constable Mackay, who was there ab bhe time, of the occurrence. Constable Mackay at once proceeded over to bhe ship, and wibh the assistance of some of bhe men had the body removed to the morgue, where ib now lies.
The bpdy is thab of a man of aboub 35 years of age of very respectable appearance. Ib had evidently been a very short time in bhe waber, as it was quibe limp and blood was flowing, freely from the eyes and nostrils, forced out, no doubb, by bhe dying man's struggle, while (here waa nob the slightest sign of any violence or marks on bhe body. The deceased was sfb 7in in heighb, was of stoub and heavy build, the face and throab being large and full. The hair, which is rather thin, is of a brown colour, and bhe face ia clean shaved, except a sandy-coloured mousbache. The body is fully clothed in a dark bweed suit, of good material, cobton drawers, a whibe shirb, flannel, a piece of flannel as a chesb protector, and a pair of elastic-Bide boots. The deceased was apparently in good circumstances, for in his pockets the following articles were found : a gold openface keyless sbop-watch, No. 94,933, by Sbewarb Dawson and Co., Liverpool, which had sbopped ab 6 o'clock, and had attached to ib a massive gold link chain', withoub any pendant, a full seb of silver sbuda in bhe shirb wibh a gold horse-shoe mounting, a sovereign, 3s 3d in silver and 4d in coppers, 2 white silk handerchiefs, and a three-bladed white-handled knife.
A large number of persons viewed bhe remains at the morgue bhis morning, but without identifying the deceased.
BODY IDENTIFIED.
The body of bhe unfortunate man found floating in harbour this morning was identified this afternoon by Mr Charles Dodge, the licensee of the Prince of Wales Hotel, as bhab of Frank Turney, a married man, who resided in Anglesea-sbreob, Ponsonby. He leaves a wifo and family of two, bobh grown up, a daughter married bo Mr Tuckey of this ciby, aud a son who works in bhe Kauri Timber Company's mill. Mr Dodge, who is an intimate friend of deceased's family, saw him yesterday afternoon ab 4 p.m. ab bhe corner of Queon and Wellesley-sbreeba, and waa in his company for aboub half an hour. When they parted company ab 4.30 p.m. bhe deceased said he was going down Queensbreeb for a walk, and bhab is bhe lasb bhat was known of his movemenba while alive. Ib appears bhat he waubed to be home ab 6 p.m., aa come friends were coming bo hia house ab thab time. Deceased had been in town for the lasb twelve monbhs, and, although doing nobhing, he was in very comforbable circumstances, and ib is said he was going to 'Friaco by the Monowai to-morrow to try hia luck in bhe timber trade there.
A coroner's inquesb will be held tomorrow at 2.30 p.m., bub aa bhe body may be removed from the morgue bo Angleseasbreeb, bhe place where bhe inquesb will be held will depend upon bhe removal.
