I Prices have boon fairly steady ; but any in- \ creased supply will at once causo a consider- -, able fall. Southern potatoes, although large ' and ugly in appearance, are good in quality. M'aikato crop is of very varied quality. Onions are in diminished supply, tiie ■demand is not great, except for a few export orders prices would reSede; the demand should improve on ihe departure of the mail and Island steamers. Maize is somewhat dull of sale, Bxcopt in small lots; tho same remarks apply to oats and fowl wheat. Prime 'fresh butter maintains its value, prices being the same as last week. We sold ■upwards of 10 kegs, but the quality. on the average, can only bo classed second and third. Eggs have become very scarce, ; whilst the demand is unsatisfied. !New cure bacon is coming in in small lots, and commands ready sale. Tho demand for bacon has considerably improved, in conBequonco, wo think, of tho increased price ; of beef au.i mutton. Cheese readily cells en arrival at an advance on recent quotations. Poultry : Supplies up to the average, prices remain the same. SYuit : Apples continue to be rushed in ..owing to the season being unfavourable for ' keeping; prices are without alteration.
