PRESENTATION OF CHRISTMAS CAKES BY LADY ONSLOW. 9

Th'b Countess of Onslow forwarded four Christmas cakes to the boys of the Kohimarama School, and roquosted tho Hon. E. Mitchelson to present them to tho boys on her behalf. Mr Mitchelson being detained in Wellington, commmissioned Mr Win. McCullough to act tor him, and this rfiorning that gentleman, accompanied by Mr G. S. Graham, Mr A. Brodie arid oohers, visited the school for the purposu of giving the boys the Christmas cakes. Mr McCulloujjh, in addressing the boys, referred to the consideration shown by Liidy Onslow for their welfare and happiness, forcibly reminding them that, although they were nob able to gather round their own homes and partake of Christmas cheer, yet they were nob forgotten. He said that kindliness of heart and consideration for the wants of others wa3 characteristic of Lady Onslow, and should never be forgotten by tho boys. The eldest boy returned thanks for the present, and desired Mr McCullough to thank Lady Onslow, and wish her and her children a happy Christmas. Mr George S. Graham, who had given the boys a basket of fruir, also addressed them, telling them the life history of a boy who had left Kohimarama many years ago. Mr Brodie also spoke some encouraging words to the youngsters. Three cheers were given by the boys for Lady Onslow and the Governor, and three cheors for Huia, Lady Onslow's youngest born. Mr W. McCuliough has since sent the following telegram : — " The Countess of Onslow, Christehurcb. " In the absence of Hon. E. Mibchelson I had t.he pleasure to present to-day to the boys of the Kohimarama School your Christmas cakes. The oldest boy, on behalf of the school, requested me to fchuiik you for your kindness an,d to wish Lord Onslow, yourself, Huia and your daughters a happy Christmas. "Wμ. McCullodgh."
