THE URIWERA COUNTRY.
When the Hon. Mr Cadman was in the Uriwera Country recently the natives appealed to him in reference to internal disputes as to the ownership of certain land. Mr Cadman advised the natives to have the land surveyed, and to refer the matters in diepute to the Land Court. Serious objection was made to the adoption of this course at the time, but the natives have now come to the conclusion that the advice given by Mr Cadman was good. They have asked that Mr Oliver Creagh should make the survey, and Mr Cadman intends to make the needful arrangements to carry out his proposal. Some importance is attached to the decision of the Uriweras, who have hitherto steadfastly refused to have their land sun'eyed, and this will probably be the first step towards having part of the Uriwera country thrown open for settlement.
