Hamburg, October 5; The Hamburg " Nichricten " declares that the Russian advance in Central Asia is being carried out for the purpose of diverting England's attention from Germany's colonial policy.

The remarks made at the National Liberal Federation at Newcastle by Mr Gladstone, to the effect that the British occupation of Egypt was both burdensome and embarrassing, has been well received by the Parisian newspapers.
London, October 5.
The Austrian, German, and Italian Governments, having replied to the note issued in connection with the Porte's concession to Russia regarding the Dardanelles, it is now expected that some united diplomatic action will be taken in the matter.
Madrid, October 5.
The Queen as Regent denies the statement that Spain was about to enter the Triple Alliance, and declares that Spain will never abandon her position of neutrality.
