NEWTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The holiday yesterday did not deter the members of the above Council from assembling to transact tho ordinary business. There were present Mr J. S. Ambury (Mayor), Councillors English, Donald, Cox, Webley, Tibbs and Cleghorn. Survey Marks. —A letter was read from Mr* Thos. Bumphries requesting the Council to assist in keeping: the standing survey marks from being injured within the Borough. It was resolved that the request he. complied with. ' Charitable Aid Board. —The Mayor was appointed to meet representatives from Newmarket and Parnell, with a view to the -election of a representative for the three boroughs on the Charitable Aid Board. Waste of Water.—The turncock, Mr John Fonton, reported that he had visited the houses in the borough, and caused six old taps to be renewed and. thirty new washers to be affixed to other taps. He found that water was thoughtlessly wasted and had warned several people. Tho report was adopted, and it was resolved to serve notices in certain instances." The Town-Clerk reported that 150,000 galloiiof Vater had b'eeri consumed ih' the- borough during the past fortnight; ■■- PoUNpkEEPKR.— Mr: T. Wilkinson was appointed poundkeeperV Drainage.—Plans and specifications for the drainage of Mackelvie-street were laid on;the table. It was decided to call tenders for the work.
Bridge Road.—The Town Clerk reported that £10 had been received from Mr James McNair as a contribution towards the approaches to the bridge over Cox's Creek. It was resolved to thank the donor.
