EMERGENCY SUPPLY ASSOCIATION.

THE CARTERS' POSITION.

The following ia a copy of the letter sent I>y Mr Kirkup to the Employers' Emergency Supply Association, and considered at the meeting yesterday of the Association : " Auckland, September 10th, 1890. The Secretary the Employers' Emergency Supply Association of Auckland. Sir,—l have the honour to inform you that it has been decided that all members of the Carters' Union will turn to work again forthwith, provided the employers will reinstate their former'employees. —Youra faithfully, Thomas Kibkup, Secretary

Carters' Union. I approve of the same.— Edward Ckonin, President Seamen's Union."

In the discussidn which followed several present urged that an injustice had been done the employers by the men who suddenly went on strike, and that it would be very unfair to new hands to throw them out after having served the employers well when the others left. Finally the following resolution was carried :—" That Mr Kirkup be informed that thoee employers who have not made other arrangements are prepared to receive personal applications from their old employees." In reference to theactionof Mr Jas. Macfarlane and Messrs Carr, Johnston and Co. re the American barque Carrie L. Tyler and the s.s. Kahu, the following resolution was carried :—" That this meeting of employers heartily endorse the action of Mr James Macfarlane as agent of the Carrie L. Tyler, and that of Messrs Carr, Johnston and Co., as agents of the s.s. Kahu, in refusing to be coerced in their right to manage their business in accordance with their own discretion."

A general feeling was expressed that there was no further need for an Emergency Supply Association, and it was resolved to dissolve forthwith and to make a call of 10s per membor for expenses, and if should be any balance from the call to hand it to the Employers' Association.
