NAPIER.

NELSON BROS. , NEW CONTRACT.

ALL UNIONISTS CALLED OUT.

The contractors for loading the Nelson's frozen meat paid the lumpers off when the latter struck, each man having earned a guinea and sixpence for yesterday's work. Nelson Bros, entered into a new contract with the same firm for twelve monthe, on condition that only non-Unioniets be employed. The Unionists held a meeting in the afternoon, when it was resolved that every Unionist should strike.

The atoremen, carters and railway hands are not expected to come out. There is abundance of free labour, and the employers are determined to fight. The case of the Star of Victoria, which is in port to complete loading frozen meat, is a peculiar one. Before her arrival the agents asked whether the Unionist lumpers would work her. Mr Creagh, the local secretary, wrote to the agents saying the Maritime Council had instructed him to say no interference was to be offered to Tyser's steamships, and that Unionists would .load her. .

On Tuesday they worked as promised, but yesterday, when only 1,500 carcases remained to be put on board, JWr Creagh called the men out, saying it was by order of the Maritime Council, but giving no reason.

Before free labourers could be secured the sea gob up, and the cargo could not be shipped. If the sea moderates to-day, it will be shipped, as plenty of free labour is to be Obtained,

The crews of the steamers engaged in tendering the Star of Victoria will be called out, and this will involve all the coastal fleet of their owner, Mr C. E. G. Richardson, who has hitherto avoided collision with the Maritime Councfi.
