MATCH ENDS IN A DRAW

Yesterday afternoon we left the New ■South Vv'aies men in their seconc innings with 2 wickets down for 45 runs with Youill and Robinson ai ihe wickets. Robinson made the score move rapidly, bub afc length Youili lifted one from Lusk to Walker at long un. and he held it carefully. 64-3 21. Cowpei1 was next man and 60 soon ap peared, and then Neill relieved Koily at bowling1. The change dismissed Gowper. 68—4 —5. Davis, tho captain, came iv ann started with his neat leg strokes', but lo*; Robinson almost immediately, Lusk catching him splendidly with one hand off his own bowling. 74—5—24. Callavvay toot, the vacancy, and 80 was soon on the board. Both men kept scoring, and 90 appeared, but at S9 Rees, who had taken Neili's place, clean bowled Callaway with a beauty. 99 6—B. Clarke appeared at tho wickets, but when he haJ scored 2 lie sent the ball back to Lu*k. 109—7—2. Newell wen! in, and Davis raised tho score to 116, when lie declared the innings closed, carrying lnbac for a well-played 54.
AUCKLAND SECOND INNINGS.
Auckland went in again afc about 4.les with 172 runs to make co win, with Yate.and Kissling to face the bowling of NcweiJ and Caliavvay. Bodi men scurtud very carefully, but Kissling t-ocn made a four to square leg, and then a beautiful cut for three. McCiinchy relieved Newell, and (Jovvper took Callaway's placo, but the change was not eilective, the batsmen seeming to be quite at home, though very cautious. A t}no drive and a square lesj hii for live by Yates brought 20 up, and still the score rose steadily till at 40 Yate.was badly run out. ' 40—1—21. The veteran w^s cheered as he returned. Gardiner waa next man, and runs qamc more sldwly, Davis saving a lot at point. Newell again took the bali from Cowper, and at last, at 61, Gardiner lifted Newell to \ onili at Jong on, where he was hold after making 6. Fowke came in, but was out at 64 Ibw. to Newell with a d.l"-"k- Starason came in, but waa yorked by Newell with the score at 70. The stumps were then drawn, Kissling carrying his bat for a good 39, with but oiie chance in it.

The attendance yesterday afternoon was very good, and showed that much interest was taken, in the match.
The New South Wales men spoke very favourably of the wicket, which was most carefully prepared under Mr Mumford's direction.
