AUCKLAND SCORES 113. The play began this morning at about 11.30 with the Auckland score at 42, Yates and Fowke not out from the previous day. Yates faced Callaway's bowling, who took the Hospital end. Off hia third ball the veteran scored a pretty 2 cut and then made a 2 past point. Newell's first over was a maiden, and then 2 other maidens followed. Yates started the scoring again by scoring 2 off Callaway. Yates brought 50 up by a single, and Fowke made an off drive for the 'same. A hit out by Yates gave Clarke a fine catch. 54—5—35. The veteran was received with cheers as he returned to the pavilion. Stemson came in and scored off his first ball, while Fowke brought 60 up by a fine hit to leg for 5 off Newell. Fowke next cut Callaway for 3, being nearly caught by Newell. Stemson drove Newell to long off tor 4, Cottam not fielding well. Fowke brought 70 on the board by a single and then Stemson hit Callaway for 5. Stemson again made a long hit for 2 off Newell and another 2 off the next ball brought 80 up. Cowper took Callaway's place at the bowling:, and Stemson made 2 by a leg hit off oil his first. The century came amidst applause by a wellrun leg bye. Gardiner scored a single, and then lifted McCUnchy to Robinson, who let an easy catch past him, for which the batsman got 2. Singles followed, and then Gardiner made a pretty cut for 4 to the boundary, and followed it up by a splendid hit to the on for four, but in attempting a fifth Kelly was run out. 113—10—0. Sydney.-—Second Innings. ' At ten minutes past two, after lunch, the Sydney men began their second innings with McClinchy and Cottam to the bowling of Rees and Lusk. Walker and Mills fielded substitutes for Yates and Lynch. McClinchy scored a single off Rees, and then two off Lusk. A close run nearly out Cottatn out and then McClinchy liftefl Lusk for a couple. Singles followed and then Cottam brought 10 up by a fine off drive for 5. . Rees sent down a maiden and then Cottam lifted Lusk well •to the on for 3. Next ball McClinchy skied to Gardiner, in whose hands it rested safely. 7—2 —7. Robinson went in next but Fowkestumped.Cottam smartly. 17-I—7. Youill followed, and Robinson made a couple and then brought 20 up by a single. Singles followed for a.few overs, and then Youill gave Mills an easy catch, but he dropped it. The same batsman got two fine strokes for four each, and brought 40 up. He then gave Walker another chance, but it also was dropped. The score now stands at 43 for two wickets.
