COMING EVENTS.
HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
The Horticulbural Show opened at the Choral Hall this afternoon is a most attractive exhibition of local industry, and during this evening and to-morrow it should attract a large number of visitors. Musical programmes have been provided for both evenings. A fuller report of the Show is given in another column. SQUADRON SPORTS. The programme of Jubilee events set down for Saturday is perhaps the most attractive of any programme in the Jubilee list of events. During the forenoon a series of events open to members attached to Friendly Societies will be competed for on the Domain Ground, and subsequently the Squadron Sports will be held under tbe management of the Amateur Athletic Club. Tbe programme of events is so novel and so attractive thab ib is probable bhere will be many thousands of spectators, and it is to be hoped the Committee of Management will take warning by yesterday's fiasco at the Takapuna racecourse, and erect some substantial barrier to prevent the encroachment of spectators on the Cricket Ground, upon which the sports are to be held. At the same time a special effort should be made to provide accommodation for the public, and, as the seats available on the pavillion will sure enough be totally inadequate, a sensible and profitable movement would be to erect one or two grandstands for the accommodation of those who choose to take advantage of this convenience. This, added bo the natural elevation of the ground surrounding the flab, would probably meet all requirements, and as the sports are certain to be a financial success, .the managing Committee should make a special effort to see that good accommodation is provided for those who pay to see these events, and who by their attendance and financial support assist to make bhe Jubilee a great and memorable success. Mr A. E. Devore, President of the Jubilee Committee, is endeavouring to arrange with the Maoris to give a war-dance at the conclusion of the Domain sports to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon, in order to make amends for the disappointment caused by their inability to perform through overcrowding at Takapuna yesterday. FINANCIAL RESULTS. " The attendance at the North Shore yesterday in connection with the Jubilee events is roughly estimated ab between 20,000 and 30,000. Of those who went over the water, between seven and eighb thousand took ls 6d tickets which enabled them to see the war dance, in addition to paying for steamboat fares. The percentage to be received by the Jubilee Committee from these fares will amount to over £400.
