JUBILEE PYROTECHNICS. A SUGGESTION TO THE COMMITTEE.
We' judge from a good many complaints, oral and written, that the thousands of people who have flocked into th 0 city from the country districts North and South, not to mention the city thousands, were by no means satisfied with the entertainment given them for theirmoney by theJubileeCommittee yesterday; This was less due to the nature of the programme than the manner in which it was carried out. In point of fact, owing to the crush the Maori events were a fiasco. Financially the spec will prove a very profitable one to the Jubilee Committee, who receive £400 oub of the moneys taken by the Devonport Ferry Company. The affair will doubtless leave them a large surplus, which may be supplemented by the receipts from other event.. It has been suggested that £50 or £100 from these funds could bo very well applied in a display of fireworks on Saturday night from a vesse] like the hulk Senator anchored in the harbour. The closing scene at the Sydney centennial celebrations was a grand display of fireworks carried oub under the manasrement of Mr Pain. The Paris Exhibition also closed with pyrotechnics, unparalleled in their splendour. We do not know whab can be accomplished in Auckland now, bub if the Committee can still make arrangements for any display that would be worth looking at, we believe thab no more popular finish could be devised for the last night of the gala-
There is a general wish that some permanent memorial of the Jubilee shall be determined upon, and no doubt the Committee will give due consideration to this matter when they have wound up the work connected with the various sports.
