RAILWAY WORKS IN CHINA.
OPERATIONS STOPPED.
Thursday Island, this day. News received by mail steamer from China states that Fu Ch'ong has been appointed Chinese Minister to England.
The Emperor of China has ordered the construction of the Tung Chow railway to cease, and has directed the appointment of a Board of Revenue to provide a million taels to meet the expenses of compensation.
