ST. GEORGE'S ROWING CLUB.
The St. George's Rowing Club's annual concert was held in the Parnell Hall last evening, and was a great success. The hali was weil filled, and the stage was tastefully decorated with ferns, flags, oars, etc. The programme was varied and of the first water, eight of the ecu items being encored. Of the vecal selections, Miss Knight's (despite an accompaniment by the rain on an iron roof) was bhe gem of the evening. The lady was in good voice and gave with much pathos, "Alas, Those Chimes" (Maritana), and for an encore, "Never You Mind What You Can't Mend." Mr A. L. Edwards's tenor voice was heard to advantage in "Rocked on the Billows," and being recalled, he gave "My Sweetheart When a Boy." Mr D. J. Bews sang in good tone " Anchored," and Mr Hookey was encored for his comic song, " The Amateur Yachtsman," and his second effort, "Inverted Proverbs," took better with the audience. The Grafton Orpheus Glee Club had to respond for their quartette, while Messrs Edwards and Charter's voices blended well together in bhe dueb " Love and War," and received a well-merited encore. Mr J. F. Montague recited, in first class style, the auction scene in " School for Scandal," and was forced to bow his acknowledgments. In tho instrumental ibems, Miss Buckland's violin solo was played wibh mu<di skill, and had to be repeated. A zither solo by Mr Winkelmarm was al_o well rendered, and an encore was demanded. Mr Alt Bartley gave a taking bolo on the piano. This genbleman also greably assisted the vocalists by his playing of tho accompaniments with his usual taste andgoodexecution. The members of the Auckland Amateur Dramatic Society acted the well-known comedy, " Written in Sand," but the effect, owing to the noise by the heavy raiu making tho voices almost inaudible, was entirely spoilt. Mr H. S. Ashton, bhe Secretary to the Club, deserves praise for his management in bringing the concert to a successful issue.
