BANKRUPTCIES AT BLENHEIM.
(by telegkaph.-_.bess association.)
Blenheim, this day. Judge Richmond held a sitting in bankruptcy on Saturday. Iv the case of pne application for discharge the bankrupt had failed- to advise the creditors residing in other to~wns of his intention to apply, and said he understood it.was not necessary, as those creditors had never proved. The Judge" held that this vitiated the proceedings, and_ adjourned the application till next sessions. Another applicant, a flax - dresser, traced his difficulties to speculation in land. The judge animadverted strongly, on reckless speculation by penniless people, -and suspended his discharge for twelve months. In another case a labouring man appeared for public examination. It w.is shown he held some little property and hAd given money to his wifo, in all £525, for' maintenance of family. Counsel for the creditors moved to exercise the summary clauses of the Act, but the judge declined, observing in reference to the clause that he eudorsed the opinion of Justice Williams that the judges in bankruptcy, were armed witholunderbus.es. The act was very defective. One examination was adjourned till next session.
