Messrs C. E. Paget and Co. report business for the past week as being greatly improved. Good supplies of all kinds of prodnce have come to hand freely, and an unusually active demand has been experienced for most lines. An ■unpreceHentedly harp rise has taken place in al kinds of grain,connequent upon heavy shi- m nts to Australia. New potatoes have flrnivd in price, and the demand has improved. Thero are numerous inquiries for prime corned butter, and good prices are offered, but only limited ?Tncs have come to hind. Other lines remain at about last w.ek's prices. Tho following are the quotations for the week: —Produce: New potatoes, Shepherds, 5s 9d per cwt to 7s do. kidneys, 6s 6(1 to 10s 6d perewt; onions, old, poor sample. }d per lb ; cabbages. Is per sack ; maize, 3s 6d to 4s 3d per bushel; oats, 3s to 4s; wheat 4s; damaged maize, 2s 6d to 3s; bran, £6 per ton : sharps, £6 10s: oatmeal. £16; chaff, £4. sacks extra; fresh butter, cood demand. 6d per lb; corned do, 8d and BJd; cheese (now), 3d to 4_d; hams, prime local, 6_d; ditto, 7d; bac»n, fair quality, local, 4d to s_d; tea, 14s per box ; candles. 5d per lb ; rice, 2d ; biscuits, 2d to 3?d; iams (Dunedin), 4s S3 per dozen. Poultry: bnly'a small quantity booked, and prices ruled low; fowls, poor, ordinary. Is 2d to Is 5d each; young ducks, Is to Is 4rl; full grown. Is 9d; chicks. Sd; hen and chicks, 3s3d; small pigs, 10s to lis each.
