A Maiden Plats Handicap has beeu added to the programme, which now comprises seven events, and a good afternoon's sport should be the result. Ladies and children will again be admitted bo the course free. The first race starts ab one o'clock, and trains leave the Auckland station, at 12 noon, 12.20, 1.10, and 2.5 p.m. With a start, my ideas of the probablu results are : — Sphing Handicap. —Hilda. Inukseuy Handicap. — Warrior or The Bean (the former for choice). Hurdle Race.—Ma Petite Fille. Gray Handicap.—Hilda. Selling Hurdles. —Fisherman. Hunters' Welter.— Pretender. Maiden Plate Handicap.— Foxton.

AUCKLAND CUP and STEEPLECHASE,

The great body of fcurfitea vote Son-of-a-Gua aiid Manton as the " best goods ;; in the Auckland Cup. Both have been supported for small amounts afc 6 to 1, bufc there is not likely to bo mutsh speculation on the race till it. is definitely known what " foreign " horses will put in an appearance. Lady Norah is particularly well handicapped; and Hilda stands out as being leniently treated. 2selson has plenty of mends, and if the (Jap hero of the past three years strips anything like himself, lie will gcb no end of support. In the Steeplechase, Mangaohane must be hard to beat, despite his 12st impost ; but a horee that Mr Evetfc has been unduly lenient with is Echo, who won the Wellington Steeplechase of 1887, defeating Mangaohane by a short head. In the same season Echo won several other races, and at the Lug Hawke's Bay Meeting got second to Uranus in the Maiden Steeplechase, afterwards winning the Consolation. The prices on offer for the Auckland Cup are :—5 to 1 Manton, 7 to 1 Son-of-a-Gun and Hilda, Bto 1 Nelson and Lochiel. For the double (Cup and Steeplechase), 100 to 6 can be had on the field.
