OUR GOLDFIELDS.

Thames, this day. Cambria.—The No. 1 leader in the rise, which recently connected Nos. 4 and 5 levels, is now being stripped and broken down, and colours of gold are occasionally seen in the quartz. Good progress is being made with the sinking of the winze on No* 6 leader, from No. 3 level, and it has now attained a depth of 42 feet. The quartz here carries some favourable minerals, and colours of gold are frequently observed in it. Colours of the precious metal are also seen in the quartz coming to hand from the stopes, but they present no change worthy of mention. New Prince Imperial. — The manager has decided to crush the quartz that has come to hand from the stopes on the hangingwall portion of No. 1 lode over No. 3 level, and a start will probably be made early next week. In consequence of the leader at No. 1 level not having improved, work on it has been suspended, and a crosscut has now been commenced to open out on the leader which crosses through the shaft afc a point between No. 1 level and the surface.
New Fearnought.— The drive is penetrating a very favourable channel of sandstone It is 70ft.
Trenton.—The country in the shaft is very hard, and consequently slow progress is being made.
Waihi G.M. Co.—Messrs Price Brothers have obtained an order to construct a rotary roasting furnace for the Waihi Company. Parkes's Furnace.—A telegram from Paeroa states that a general oleaning-up of the bullion obtained from the ore being treated by the Parkes furnace, afc Karangahake, will take place on Saturday. According to latest advices, the furnace was working smoothly. Cambria. — Colours of gold were seen through the quartz when breaking down No. 1 leader. The quartz broken out of No. 6 leader is kindly-looking for gold. 61b picked stone have come to hand from the _ second stope east; on the main reef during the week. Colours of gold were seen when breaking down several other leaders. 37 loads of quartz have been crushed during the week f6r the return of 85oz, lOdwt. amalgam. The mine manager wired yesterday :—" 81 loads quartz and 101b picked stone crushed for 60oz. gold." Saxon. — The amalgam on hand from geneial quartz crushed during the fortnight has been retorted for a yield of 2660z retorted gold, which was afterwards reduced by melting to 2620z 7dwt. This return is from 310 loads quartz, Picked atone on hand, 1301b,
New Alburnia.—The quartz in the faco of the reef intersected by the second stope is 10 inches in thickness, and looks promising for gold.
