PRISONERS BROUGHT FROM
SYDNEY
The s.s. Wairarapa, which arrived in port } this morning, brought amongst other passengers Detective Tuohy, who had i n his custody a man named Joseph Young This person was apprehended in Australia and the detective was sent over to bring him back again. Young appeared at the Police Court this morning before Messrs J. Gordon and J. P. King, justices, when he was charged with having on the 19th September at Auckland obtained goods and moneys to the value of £42 from James Howden, by means of certain false pretences and with intent to defraud. Mr J. O'Meagher appeared on behalf of the defendant, and asked for a remand until to-morrow morning in order that the defence might be prepared. Mr Broham said that he had no objection to offer under the circumstances
The Bench accordingly granted the remand.
Detective Tuohy also brought over with him a man named Charles Henny, who i 6 to be remanded to Wellington, whither he will proceed to-morrow. Henny is charged with Jha,ving committed fraudulent bankruptcyt
