THE SACRILEGE AT PARNELL.

,At bhe Politfe Court this morning a young man named W. H. Ketblewell was charged under the Police Offences Act, 1884, with having been found by nighb wibhout lawful excuse upon enclosed premises in Parnell, to wit, bhe yard of Sb. John's Convent, on the 26th September. Mr F. Earl appeared on behalf of th& accused and said thab he understood thab the police were inclined to withdraw the charge. In thaj case he would suggest that ib was not necessary to bring Mr Kettlewell. forward, as he had already suffered considerably in the matter. He might state thab Mr Kebtlewell waa. in waiting in the clerk's room if the Bench decided that he must be produced. He understood that the Lady Superior of the convent did not wish to press the charge, as Mr Kettlewell had already made ample restitution for anydamage done, and had apologised for his action, and also had given a handsome contribution towards the funds of the convent.

Inspector. Broham said that as the arresb had only been made late yesberday afternoon he had purposed applying for an adjournment in order to afford time for the police to prepare the case. Lasb night however he received a lebter from the Lady' Superior of the convent in which she had expressed great reluctance to appearing in court or allowing any of the others to do so. She stated that the young man had apologised and expressed great regret. Under the circumstances .he did nob**think that there was any danger of a repetition of the offence, and in bhe lace of the request from the Lady Superior he fait thab he would scarcely be justified in asking for an adjournment. He would therefore with the permission of the Bench withdraw the case.

Their Worship's accordingly allowed the case to be withdrawn.

Great credit is due bo Detective Hughes and Constable Hobson for the prompt and clever manner in which this matter was traced out.
