CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was proceeding as we went to press, amongst those present being several Auckland members of the House of Representatives. The object of the meeting T*as to submit recommendations to members, prior to their departure for Wellington in reference to tho North Island Trunk Railway Route, Goldmining Interests and their encouragement, Bankruptcy Laws, Pensioner Settlement Scheme. San Francisco Mail Service, and the question of taxation, especially the property tax and Customs tariff. It was intended to move the two following resolutions: — (1) "That the Chamber urges upon the members of this district the importance of continuing the Pacific mail service." (2) " That in the opinion of the Chamber the North Island Trunk route should be completed so as to connect with Stratford no as to complete communication with Wellington. " fl-_
