Second Edition. THE POLITICAL CRISIS.
End of tho Session
EXODUS OF MEHBERS BEGUN.
(BY TELEGKAPIL —SPECIAL BErOETEB.)
Wellington, this day. This week should sco the end of tho present Parliament. Should tho House refuse supply, no difficulty will bo experienced, as tho present appropriation really extends to June 30th. The elections could bo expedited so as to enablo the now Parliament to meet in July. Efforts wore made in certain quarters to influenco Plis Excellency to refuse a dissolution on the ground of the expenso of a second session, but I understand that Sir . William Jervois very properly held that the question of oxponse was not one for his consideration. Ho is not guardian of tho public purse of tho colony, and it is for the House of Representatives to consider the financial aspect of the question. His Excellency has only to satisfy himself that tho Ministry havo a constitutional claim to take tho verdict of the country upon a great question of policy on which they havo suffored a defeat in the House. In tho present case their claim to do so is undoubted. It is even admitted by opponents liko Mr Ormond, and is not contested by Major Atkinson. Tho exodus commences this evening, u-hon some of the Southern members leave by tho e.g. Tarawera. '
