TafiSociety commenced its winter evening operate on Wednesday, in the presence oftsspectablo and intelligent audience, in connection with a fruit and tea service. Tie school-room in which the conversazione «M leld was adorned with festoons of Howes by the skilful fingers of the Witt, ond added to the interest of flic gathering. The fruit and prowionol department was furnished at the Bile expense of a gentleman connected with St. David's congregation, and was most liberal in display. Mr. John Lamb Ws elected to the chair, and, after a pianoforte solo had been performed by MLss oeedell, Mr. Lamb delivered an excellent iddressi, in which he gave his Scottish recollections and an account of his struggles, under disadvantageous circumstances, in pnrauit of nrefnl knowledge. The choir, under Mr John Bell, sang two choruses in pleasing style, "Just in the Dawn of ionth,' and " Come, join our Choral NumMt." Rev. C. Worboys delivered a spirited address in illustration of the advantages of Bintaal improvement societies, which was jutened to With marked attention. Mr J. BeU and party rendered the quartette, Dew on the Meadow," in a very efficient manner. Miss Miller sang the familar Scotch song, I' Jock o'Hazledean." This young lady 'as highly complimented in a brief speech tyMrJowittforber successful effort, the »ng having awakened memories of other years. Brief speeches were made at intervals by Messrs Angus, Badger, woKfnzie, McGregor, Knight, and others. Mrlnight read, at the request of the Umnnan, his able report of the work t i.P^t seanon, which appeared »»e Stab in the report of St. David's wrareh meeting a few weeks ago. Mr ■wckoan then read a poem, "Intellectual jrogress,' written by request for the oc™»n. We learn that an excellent sylla™Bol lectures for the ensuing term is in ff? 10"'the first > or inaugural lecture, ™«| given by Rev. C. Worboys, on the evenmcr o f Thursday, the 21st inst. A fWfal vote of thanks, proposed by Mr Wt.and seconded by Mr T. Bell, was carT\ V acclamation, and the business was cl«d with the benediction.
