THE BURNS ANNIVERSARY.
last night tho Committee of Auckland Burns Club held a social gathering in Robsou's Rooms, Queen street, when the ladies and gentlemen who assisted at the St. Andrew's Day concert were entertained by the Club. Mr D. B. McDonald, one of the i Vice Presidents, occupied the chair, and Mr W. R. Waddtl, ex-Mayor of Auckland, another of the \ .c.-Presidents, was also present, with Mr It. Peace, Secretary. and othor officers. Tho good things having been discussed, the meeting proceeded to consider what steps should ba taken to celebrate the approa.hing Burns Anniversary, 25th January. Aftor somo conversation, it was resolved to hold an entertainment of the same character as that aiveu last year, namely, a concert with refreshments, followed by a dance. There will this year b- better accommodation than last year, as the City Hall has been secured, and all the eons and daughters of Caledonia may therefore enjoy the national dances on the capacious floor of the building. Sub-committees were appointed fo make the necessary arrangements, and they were instructed to report to a goneril meeting of committee to be held on Monday evening next. From business, the nieeting then proceeded to pleasure, and "the nicht flew by wi' sang and clatter," neirly everyone present contributing to ths general harmony. The following piecM wero particularly well rendered: — '/Como o'er tie Stream, Charley," M. Lonkham ; " Wae'b Me for Prince (Charlie," Miss Glovor; " Dinna Crosj the Burn, Willie," Mr Menzics ; " Sfo Will Wo Vet," Mr Carter ; recitation, "Tho Mason's Word," Mr Parker. A h»ppy evening's whole-hearted enjoyment clcßed by tho singing of "Auld Lang Syne."/
