MOUNT ROSKILL RESERVES.
A meeting of ratepayers was held last night to consider the matter of tho reserves loft by the lato Mr Hill to tho district. Tho Chairman began by reading tlio logul advisor's letter, which stated that tho document upon which Mr Wilson's claim rested was, in his opinion, valueless, but in order that tho matter might be settled an action in the Supremo Court was necessary, and the trustees and Board considered it wise to call a mooting of ratepayers to got an expression of opinion beiore taking further steps, as some expenses would be necessary in order to secure the property to the district. Mr Stevenson said that during the time he was on tho Road Board he heard of this property being dealt with contrary to the wish of tho giver, and becamo much interested in it, and excited a desire to get it secured. tie thought it a great pity no stops had been hitherto tukon, and described tho property as one oxactiy suited to the purpose for which it was givon, and also as a valuable one, worth at ft very low estimate, £50 por acre. He considered tho ratepayers would bo wanting in their duty to themselves and posterity if they suffered the land to be taken from them. In reply to a question by Mr Osborne, he said he believed that one of the trustees, Mr Davis, had signed a conveyance of the land to Mr Wilson. Mr Tipladyproposed,' Thatthismeetingisinfavour of tho Board taking action by authorising tho trustees to take the necuusarv legal proceedings to secure the proporty."
