HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
The usual weekly meoting of tho above body was held at 230 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Presont : His Worship tho Mayor, Colonel Haultain, Messrs Dando, Jeunc, Mackechnio, T, Peacock, M.H.R,, and J. M. Clark.
Rfports.—Tho House Surgeon reported 73 males and 21 fomnlcs remaining in the Hospital; also three deaths; also that ho had beon compelled to refuse admission to applicants on account of want of room. Annual gross receipts, £014 4s 4d ; expenditure, £302 17s, not including expenses on building. Refuges.—Mr Brophy reported 2 births, 03 males and 24 females remaining in tho upper refugo, and 39 males and 17 females in the lower refugo. Vacancy for one male. Hospital Management.—A telegram was road from the Premier as follows: - "lie. your telegram of Monday as to payment of hospital staff, Premier directs me to say that control of Hospital has passed from Government to Board. That Committee must apply to Board, and that Government will fuvourably consider applications of Board for temporary advance for doctor's expenses, if absolutely necessary." A letter was also forwarded with a copy of tho " Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards Act," stating that the Hospital was now under tho charge of Iho now Hoard ; at tho samo timo requesting tho Committee to remain in office until tho Board woro propared to tako ovor tho management of the institution.—lt was resolved that tho telegram and accounts bo forwarded to tho District Board.
The Pkistv Nuisance.—A lettor «-as read from tho Town Clerk, forwarding a complaint received from Mr Speed ro tbe nuisance arising from tho pigstyes situated in tho grounds adjoining the Old People's Rofttgo : Reforred to tho District Board.
Annual Subscriptions.—lt wos rosolvcd that tho subscript ions collected by Mr Asher be returned wi'h thanks to the subscribers, owing to the Committee ceasing to exist.
linis.—Tho Mayor said that this would bo tho last timo that they would moot as a Hospital Committee, and if no ono olse would thank members, ho did, sincerely, for tho time that they had dovoted to public duties.
