Tiik annual meeting of householders of tbo Auckland City School District was hold luat evening. There v/ae a fair attendance Mr P. A. Philips was voted to the chair. Annual Rei-ort. — The annual report was read by Mr Edwin Carr. Reference was made to the fact that at the last meeting a resolution was passed requesting the City Council to reduce the charges for water. The Committee, however, used someapplinnceswhich reduced|the waste of water to such an extent that the application for reduction of charges was deemed unnecessary. The cost of water supply was £26 4s Bd, as against £50 9s 2d in the previous year. The Committee were also requested to consider the advisability of making two classos of scholarships—one for those of school age, and one for thoso over age. The Committee had called the Board's attention to the unfairness of the present system to tho children of school ago. The Board are now considering the matter. An experiment was mudo with tho Kindergarten system of education, but after tho establishment of the class, circumstancoß outßido their control caused the teacher to resign, and as no qualified teacher could be found the class could not be continued. Tho prizes apportioned at the late demonstration were divided amongst tho various schools for sports. Tho committee have tried to obtain more school accommodation, and urged the Board to erect one wing for tho proposed school in Napier-street, and regretted that the Board had nit tho moans to build this much-needed school. The Committtee are glad to report a large increase in the number of scholars in the branch school at the Methodist Schoolroom, Franklin Koad. The monthly reports by the head-teacher v, ere now sent to the Committee, but were not made public. The Committeehadanumberofapplicationsfrom parents to admit or continue in the schools children over age ; but they determined to discourage these, especially where parents werj in a position to pay for their children's education. Owing to irregular attendance, the Committee had circulated 3,000 copies of a paper to be printed, showing not only the loss of education to the scholar, but also the money loss to tho educational district. The new Head-master of Nelson-street school is giving great satisfaction, and the attendance has largely increased.—ln consequence of complaints, the Committee have most carefully considered the system of writing in the schools, with a view to remove the dissatisfaction (if well founded) and yet maintain a good system. Accordingly thoy made such representations to the Board. Alterations have been made which thoy think will remedy the evils com plained of, and promote much good The account showed a balance in the bank of £8 15s 4d. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Anvertisino, — A discussion took place respecting tho insufficient publicity given to the meetings, it being pointed out that the notice in the Stab, which was the paper most generally read by householders, Leing very slight. A resolution was passed, on the motion of Mr Brearley, drawing the attention of the Board to the desirability of greater publicity for the future.
